Dr.
Zammit's Credentials: B.D.S., M.Sc.D (Ortho), MRCD, FRCD (Canada)
Dr. Mark Zammit was born in Malta, GC, Europe in 1960.
He played for the Malta Junior Volleyball squad in 1978 and attended
University of Dundee, Scotland from September 1978 - June 1982 and
graduated as a dentist (BDS) where he also played for the Dundee
University Volleyball team.
After receiving his BDS, Dr. Zammit worked as a Community
Dental Officer for the Argyll and Clyde Health Board in Greenock,
Scotland from September 1982 - April 1987 and played for the 2nd
Division Inverclyde Volleyball team. Then Dr. Zammit volunteered
as a dentist in Ashkelon, Israel from May 1987 - June 1987.
In September 1987 Dr. Zammit moved to Canada and worked
as a dentist for the Grenfell Regional Health Services in Labrador,
in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador until June 1990. During
this time he worked as a travelling dentist to eight remote coastal
communities and published three dental papers on Inuit dental health.
Those papers were presented at the IX Circumpolar Conference in
Whitehorse, Yukon in May 1990.
Then Dr. Zammit attended Case Western University in
Cleveland, Ohio between July 1990 - June 1992 and graduated as an
Orthodontist with a Masters degree (MSD). His Masters thesis won
an award with the CWRU Orthodontic Department and was selected by
the American Association of Orthodontists to be presented at the
Annual meeting in the New Generation Forum in May 1992.
In July 1992 Dr. Zammit was married in Toronto to
Ms. Ellen Winters of Happy Valley\Goose Bay, Labrador.
After his marriage, Dr. Zammit stayed on for a Post
Doctural Fellowship at CWRU from July 1992 - June 1993 and published
four papers on Inuit orthodontic, medical and dental health topics
In September 1993 Dr. Zammit passed the Membership
with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (MRCD) and started
working as an orthodontist in St. Catharines, Ontario in December
1993. Dr. Zammit then started working as an orthodontist at the
Fort Erie Dental satalite office in March 1997. In June 2001 Dr.
Zammit became the owner of 93, Ontario Street Office in St. Catharines.
In September 2002, Dr. Zammit passed the Fellowship from the Royal
College of dentists of Canada (FRCD).
Dr. Zammit has three sons born in July 1994, March
1996, and September 1998.
In September 2000 he joined the Executive of the
Niagara Dental Association and has held or will hold positions
of Director (2000\01), Secretary (2001/02), Secretary\Treasurer
(2002\03), Vice President (2003\04) and President (2004\05).
Dr. Zammit has affiliations with the Ontario Dental
Association, Niagara Dental Association, Toronto Study Club, Canadian
Association of Orthodonists, American Association of Orthodontists,
Dental Association of Malta.
Dr. Zammit's spare time is spent with family, playing
tennis, skiing, cycling, and with the Rotary club of St. Catharines,
a community service club.
